How FirstRC works
Where the data comes from
- Specs and features: the manufacturer description as published on the AMain Hobbies listing (and Horizon Hobby's speed labels for Arrma and Losi). Labeled manufacturer claim. We do not test cars.
- Prices and stock: read from the retailer's product page on the date shown (2026-10-19 for this version). AMain stock = whether the page showed "Add to Cart" or "Back Order" for the listed color. Horizon stock = the product page's structured data. Stock varies by color.
- MSRP: for Arrma, Losi and Axial we show Horizon Hobby's price, because Horizon owns these brands. Otherwise "unknown" until we check the maker's site.
- Unknown means unknown: if a listing doesn't state something, we say "not stated" or "unknown" and never fill it in.
Criteria-based age suggestion
This is FirstRC's own rule of thumb from published specs. It is not manufacturer guidance and not a safety rating, and it never overrides the age printed on the box or in the manual: if the manufacturer's age is higher, follow the manufacturer. Every suggestion assumes adult supervision.
Youngest age we suggest: 7+, with adult supervision. Only the slowest cars get 7+: crawlers and cars with a claimed stock top speed of 15 mph or less. Faster cars stay at 10+ or 12+. We don't suggest any car for drivers under 7, so the quiz shows no matches for age 6.
- Start point: crawler → 7+. Claimed stock speed ≤15 mph → 7+. ≤25 mph → 10+. Faster → 12+. Speed not published: brushed → 10+, brushless → 12+.
- If the maker claims 50+ mph with an optional battery → at least 12+.
- If the maker claims a speed-limit or training mode → minus 2 years, but never below 10+ for non-crawlers faster than 15 mph or with no published speed, and never below 7+.
- Any LiPo battery → we add the note "adult should handle charging/storage".
Rule updated 2026-10-19: the floor moved from 8+ to 7+. Cars that were 8+ are now 7+; nothing else changed.
How results are ordered
In stock at a checked retailer → battery and charger in box → manufacturer-claimed speed-limit mode → lowest price. No paid placement.
Update routine
Prices and stock are re-checked weekly. Any change to a spec or claim is logged with its source and date. Corrections: see corrections.
